Logo for Story Circle Storytelling combines the intensity of a solo performance with the intimacy of a face-to-face conversation. "Storytelling at its best is mutual creation. Through the interaction between teller and listener, storytelling speaks to the inner child to nurture the human spirit." - Ellin Greene, author of Storytelling: Art & Technique.

Workshops and Conferences

October 12, 19, and November 2 Wednesdays from 7-9 pm MARTHA and MARY are two sisters from a tale in the life of Jesus, but you don't need to be a Bible-reader to identify with these two. Their short tale represents the outer and inner aspects of our lives, whether we are women or men. Do you find yourself a little too BUSY? Yearn for more SILENCE and REFLECTION?
In this class we share our tales, turning to our own inner wisdom for a sense of balance. I promise you the laughter of learning. We'll explore how busyness and silence both pull us. Our consciousness can teach us new perspectives and help us make changes in our lives. It's not so much about action vs. contemplation; the secret is in honoring our need for both productivity and repose. Each week Marni offers an image or tale for reflection. Then in twosomes or with the group, we'll share memories or other kinds of tales that help us honor these archetypes in ourselves and in the world. Note, while Pattii is a PERFORMER, we’ll find our way to simple images and memories, (no performance experience required!) We'll see clearly how even our simplest sharings affect our listeners. LOCATION: Pastoral Center, 40 N. Main Avenue, Albany 12203 (Well-lit parking to the left and rear of building - enter from the rear lot). SERIES REGISTRATION: $45. For opening night only $10 – on site - Simply call so we have a sense of numbers (for chairs) 518-489-4431.
Cash or Checks: Consultation Center, 790 Lancaster St., Albany, NY 12203, QUESTIONS? Marni 381-9474

Among Ourselves

We are DELIGHTED to hear that the Hudson Valley Writers Guild essay competition which had categories in personal essay, humor, and memoir gave some of its prizes and honorable mentions to STORYTELLERS who submitted!

Fran Yardley won first place in the personal essay division. She's currently writing a book about the Bartlett Carry Club outside Saranac Lake which began in the 19th century, property she and her first husband Jay Yardley inherited and developed in the 1960s and 70s. Fran submitted an excerpt from the book, and was surprised and delighted to hear she'd won. She'll share her essay aloud and all honorees will be feted at the Community Writers event at Albany Public Library's Main Branch on Saturday October 15 from 2-4:30. MANY of the winners and honorable mentions are women who attend the PYRAMID LAKE WRITERS RETREAT each summer immediately following the STORYTELLING RETREAT (many come to both). THIS YEAR those events will take place July 13-15 (storytelling) and 15-20 (writing). Mark your calendars. The support you receive for both storytelling and writing is excellent at both events. Another writer honored is our own Mary Murphy and local Jewish teller Fay Silton. Congrats to all.
